Pulse Surveys: Are your top performers quitting?

Our Pulse Survey feature is now undergoing a total overhaul, and we’re approaching it incrementally. In this first step, we’ve fixed several smaller bugs and UI glitches, and have added an important new grouping option: Group by Performance Rating. This can then be used to spot unhappiness on the Heatmap and on the timeline charts:

 

For those who don’t use overall ratings, you can also group by the Rated Questions in your reviews. So if you’re employing the Keeper Test for instance, this is now also an option.

Streamlined Calibration Cycles

The review forms in calibration cycles have caused questions: Displaying both pre-calibrated and calibrated ratings at the same was requested by some customers but disliked by others. We’re now by default only showing the “current” one, and have cleaned up the admin screens a fair bit too. Learn about the updated process in our Help Center.

Question-by-Question Analysis

Sometimes overall ratings don’t paint the full picture, and review forms can benefit from “rated questions” like the Keeper Test, or a Promotion Recommendaiton. We’re evolving our reporting screens, and you can now use these questions to filter and group for more granular insight – also in combination with ratings or departments for instance.

 

You add these columns via the “Columns” menu, selecting “Manage” at the end:

 

You can then select which questions from a review will be included, and you can give them a short name too:

Target Dates in Key Results

We added an easy but powerful improvement to encourage clarity in Key Results. Target Dates help the author focus on what is truly achievable in a timeframe, and the Objective Coach will of course take these dates into account too.

Additionally, Key Results can now we reshuffled and they are always editable, not just when the Objective is edited.

We’ve entirely overhauled the writing assistant for Reviews and 360s, and it’s now also available for self-assessments.

The design is now more lightweight and allows parallel work on the content. In addition to writing suggestions it offers a “coach mode” that guides you towards making feedback more impactful and helpful.

Group Admins & HRBP

We’re planning to introduce an easy-to-use “employee group” concept, so that an admin can be admin only for certain groups of employees.

Along the same lines, we’d introduce an HRBP role that will be responsible only for a group of employees, without having access to employees outside their group(s).

It’s not 100% decided if we’re building this feature, but if you’re interested in shaping it, please reach out to product@small-improvements.com.

Conversational AI

We’ve already sprinkled many AI features into the application, but more remains to be done. One thing customers often inquire about is the ability to fine-tune the prompts, so we’ll start there.

We’ll support a more “general” AI workspace for custom prompts, and we’ll embed conversational AI right into our features too.

Survey Relaunch

Our Pulse Survey feature is up for a total overhaul. We’ve identified a large number of usability improvements, and we want to support “proper” larger engagement surveys better. As a first step in March, we allowed connecting the feature to Performance Reviews, so we can offer “grouping by performance”.But a lot more is to come!  Other planned  improvements include

  • Navigation overhaul
  • Sharing with managers and HRBP in bulk
  • Displaying distributions (in addition to average scores)
  • Filtering and even better grouping options
  • Support for sections of questions
  • Manager-run surveys
  • Better nudging and reminders

We’ve decided on new navigation for admins that will feel more natural and give access to core features much faster. In fact, the design is ready and can be previewed in a clickable prototype. We just didn’t get around to implementing it during the mad rush for end-of-year-AI-improvements. We’ll start implementing in Q1 and will launch this in Q2 the latest.

We launched the feature August 2025, but most customers only started using Cascading Objectives in January. So we’re now busy collecting feedback, and will iteratively release usability improvements.

Anomaly Detection in Review Cycles

In addition to better and more comprehensive charts for reviews, we’ll add programmatic detection of anomalies. This way you can see at a glance if certain subgroups, like “Sales staff in Brazil” or “Female Employees in Marketing” have signficantly different ratings than their counterparts in other subgroups.

We’re now working on much improved visual charting. So far our main focus had been on ratings, but soon you’ll also be able to group by any demographic, show averages and distributions. You’ll also be able to visualize subratings, like if you have the “Keeper Test” in your questionnaire.
